Overview
For normal operation and full functionality, the Rock requires both 12VDC from the access control panel and POE+ from a network switch or injector.
However, a Rock can function in a fail-safe mode with reduced functionality with the loss of POE+ as long as 12VDC panel power remains.
⛔ Loss of 12VDC (Panel Power) Only
If the Rock loses 12VDC from the access control panel but still has POE+, it can continue to authenticate faces (1FA), but it will not be able to send the associated card number to the access control panel, so the door will not unlock.
Loss of POE+ Only
If the Rock loses POE+ but still has 12VDC, it will operate in a fail-safe mode with reduced functionality. If a card reader is attached to the Rock via Wiegand or OSDP, it will continue to read card data. Whether or not the card number is passed to the access control panel depends on the mode configured in the Rock.
NOTE: Regardless of the Rock's mode, no facial authentications are possible without POE+ power.
- ✅ Demo Mode - Card swipes will be passed to the ACS panel.
- ✅ Face or Badge (1FA) - Card swipes will be passed to the ACS panel.
- ✅ Badge Only - Card swipes will be passed to the ACS panel.
- ⛔ Face-Only (1FAF) - Facial authentication is not possible.
- ⛔ Face and Badge (2FA) - Facial authentication is not possible.
- ⛔ Enrollment - Enrollment is not possible.
NOTE: Out of the box, Rocks support Wiegand communications. OSDP communications are only possible if a Rock has been onboarded to an Alcatraz Platform and configured with the proper OSDP settings.
