Card Formats

Guide to adding card formats in the Alcatraz AI Admin Portal

Overview

The Rock can operate with any badge reader and card combinations that can output a card number via Wiegand or OSDP.

When a company distributes badges to its employees, these badges will have a specific card “format”. Card formats define how data is encoded on the card. Many cards have a facility code and a card number, but it is possible that the format only contains a card number.

The badge numbers can be displayed in security events and profiles if the required card formats are defined in the Admin Portal.

You can add multiple card formats to an account, but you can only add one format for each bit length. For example, you can add 26, 35, and 48-bit card formats to a single account, but you cannot add two 35-bit formats.

Card format information may be found on the label of the box of cards, in your access control system, or by contacting the installer of your access control system.

Predefined vs Custom Card Formats

Several card formats, such as a standard 26-bit and 35-bit Corporate 1000, are pre-defined and already included in the Admin Portal. If you do not find your particular format listed, you can create a custom card format.

Adding a Pre-Defined Card Format

  1. Log in to the Admin Portal and navigate to Accounts -> Account Settings -> Card Formats.
  2. Click on the + Card Format button.
  3. Select one of the predefined formats from the list.
  4. Click Save to add the format to the list of Card Formats.

Verify

Check the Security Events tab to ensure that the Badge ID is displayed correctly with the facility code and card number.
