Configure the Rock's Network Settings (QR code)

To change the network configuration or connect the Rock to a different server, a QR code is used.

New Alcatraz Rocks are pre-configured for DHCP and set to connect to the Alcatraz multi-tenant cloud server (US). However, if static IPs or connection to a different Alcatraz Platform server are required, you can generate and use a QR code to change the Rock’s network settings.

Steps to Enable QR Code Activation on the Rock

1. Activate QR Code Setting:

Before making any network changes, ensure that the Activate QR Code setting is enabled for the Rock. When this feature is activated, a QR code icon will be displayed on the Rock’s screen, indicating it is ready to read QR codes.

2. Enabling via Admin Portal:

•Log into the Admin Portal, navigate to Device Management, and ensure the QR Code feature is activated.

Important: If the Rock has been deleted from the Admin Portal or if the QR code icon does not display, performing a Factory Reset will reset all settings and enable the QR code reading feature.

Steps to Generate a QR Code for Network Settings

Follow the steps below to generate a QR code for changing the Rock’s network settings:

1. Log in to the Admin Portal:

• Go to Device Management and select QR Code from the left-hand menu.

2. Enter Server Location:

• Choose the appropriate Domain (Server Location) based on your setup:

• For Alcatraz AI Hosted Single Tenant systems, use the Server URL or IP provided by Alcatraz AI.

• For on-prem systems, enter the IP address of the Alcatraz AI Appliance or the server running the Alcatraz AI Platform software.

• For the Alcatraz Cloud Platform, use the pre-populated Alcatraz Platform IP Address (us.alcatraz.ai).

3. Choose IP Addressing:

• Select either IPv4 or IPv6 addressing, based on your network configuration.

4. Select Addressing Method:

• Choose DHCP for automatic IP assignment, or select Manual to enter a static IP address, subnet mask, DNS server, and default gateway.

5. Confirm the Information:

• Double-check that all entered network settings are correct. Incorrect network settings will prevent the Rock from communicating with the Alcatraz AI Platform and may prevent successful onboarding.

6. Generate the QR Code:

• Once the settings are confirmed, click Generate to create the QR code.

Applying the QR Code to the Rock

Once the QR code is generated, follow these steps to apply it to the Rock:

1. Display the QR Code:

• Print the QR code or display it on a phone, tablet, or laptop. Ensure that the image is as large and bright as possible.

2. Scan the QR Code with the Rock:

• Hold the QR code about 6 to 9 inches away from the Rock’s camera.

• Slowly move the QR code closer or farther away until you see a green checkmark on the Rock’s display, indicating that the QR code has been successfully read.

3. Confirmation of Settings:

• After the QR code is scanned, the new network settings will scroll across the bottom of the Rock’s display, confirming that the settings have been updated.

Important Considerations

Correct Information: Ensure that the network settings and server locations are entered correctly when generating the QR code. Incorrect information will prevent the Rock from connecting to the Alcatraz AI Platform and block onboarding.

Network Ports and Whitelisting: Make sure that all required network ports are open, and the necessary URLs are whitelisted for either Cloud or On-Prem setups.

QR Code Activation: Always verify that the Activate QR Code feature is enabled before taking the Rock offline for network changes.

By following these steps, you can easily reconfigure the network settings of your Rock device using a QR code. If you experience any issues or need further assistance, please contact Alcatraz AI support.
